Second Annual School Supplies Collection For
South Dakota Indian Reservations
Together for Hope, High Plains

 We’re collecting school supplies for children on the Indian Reservations of South Dakota.  The collection continues through May 31, 2007.  We will distribute the school supplies near the end of August.

 A group within your church—youth, mission groups, Sunday School classes, etc.—might lead the project by asking church members to enlist their families, co-workers, and friends to help with the collection.   They could also enlist organizations they belong to at school or in the community.  They may be able to enlist someone in their  church who has influence with a business or distributor of office supplies who would be willing to help with the drive—businesses like Wal-Mart, Target, Office Max, Office Depot, or the like.

Here is what a former elementary teacher on one reservation said concerning the needs of her school age children.  “I witnessed a dramatic change in kids by the 3^rd grade.  Believe it or not, a lot of our kids by that age are already disillusioned with life and have already begun to live in the ‘here and now.’  It’s a day by day existence with little or no plans (or hopes) for the future.  So pray!  Pray for the hearts, minds and bodies of the people to be healed.”

I hope you will consider this project.  I know there are lots of needs and projects being offered to you.  I believe this one is worthy of your sincere and prayerful support!
